The KonMari Method™: About Marie Kondo

Marie now helps and inspires people all over the world to transform their homes and lives using her highly effective KonMari Method™ of organising.

Marie has appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (USA) and The Ellen Show (USA) as well as appearing on more than fifty major Japanese television and radio shows. She has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall street Journal, The London Times and Vogue. She starred in the hit Netflix Series “Tidying Up With Marie Kondo”, she has written 5 books and has even been listed as one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World.

The KonMari™ Method

Unlike most traditional methods of tidying which usually suggest tidying by room, or doing a little and often which can end up feeling overwhelming, the KonMari Method™ uses a different approach to home organising:

  • Tidy by category, not by location.

  • Tidy in order of category - begin with clothes, then books, papers, komono (miscellaneous items e.g. kitchen and bathroom items) and finally sentimental items.

  • Keep only those things that spark joy and are cherished. Making a positive choice about what to keep rather than focusing on what to get rid of enables us to be more mindful, self-reflective and positive for the future.

  • Thank the items you want to let go. They have served a purpose, at a particular moment in time which we are grateful for, but now it’s time to let them go / let someone else enjoy them.

The KonMari Method™ can also have an influence on other areas of our lives. The skills we learn and hone when focusing on what truly brings joy and happiness into our homes, can also be applied in our approach to our personal and professional lives, our relationships and passions in life.

Many people also find they discover a new attitude to purchasing - buying only the things that spark joy! This keeps their homes clutter free and their bank balances healthier!
